SINOSIKAT?
The first time I heard them on the radio, I thought they were a new foreign artist. And I don't know why I should be surprised that they weren't. It's very strange of us to first think that a band that sounds so good can't be a local artist. So, it was great to find out that they are a local band and that they sound so great. (Why am I babbling?)
Just sit back, grab a beer, and enjoy the music of SINOSIKAT? and we really don't need to answer that question.

YUGTO (director's cut)
This version of the music video was directed by Quark Henares, but did not air in the music channels.
NOTE ON THE YOUTUBE POST OF THIS VIDEO: Video shot to script and proposed storyboard. After complete shoot and edit, Rico Blanco had asked Warner Music to commission a new director because he basically didn't like how he looked and performed and wasn't allowed to edit the video and take directorial credits.
Here's the video that did air:
I still liked Quark's version better. I liked the freaky, little aswang factoids that he slipped in, as well as the strange ghost-like figures (inspired by THE SHINING?) that were seen singing in the house.

This music video was put together by the super marvelous team-up of Acidhouse Post, the illustrations and designs of Inksurge, plus the photos of Everywhere We Shoot!. Hope they continue to make more collaborations like this!

itchyworms
It was 1995 when I met Jugs at the Alamat Comic book event in Robinsons Galleria. He and his classmates at the time had a comic book called SHADOW COMICS. He eventually let go of his plans of being a comic book star and decided to pick up the guitar instead. I'd like to think that was a great career move for him. (Maybe he and the worms can someday do a comic book themed album.)

Narda flies again
One of my favorite NARDA songs unfortunately doesn't have a video. It was supposed to be part of the soundtrack of Mango Comics' DARNA comic book, and it was simply called LIPAD. I was listening to that song while I was writing "TRESE: Our Secret Constellation".
It's too bad that they've already disbanded.
At least we still get to hear Katwo sing whenever Duster gets together (and they don't do gigs that often.) Hope their album comes out soon!
Anyway, here are three NARDA videos I found in YouTube :)

Shifting to second gear with Cambio
I always found it interesting that the Sans-Ely-Eraserheads decided to get Kriss Gorra as their lead vocalist. I even got to watch one of their first gigs in 70s Bistro, just to see what they'd sound like. Hearing her sing the Eheads old songs felt strange, but at the same time, it sounded like the right thing to do. They, of course, eventually decided to change their name in Cambio.
"Call Center" would make a nice blues song if it were ever to be re-made into a blues song. I'm sure this is what most call center agents are singing when they're walking home as the sun rises.

he ate, she ate ... sandwich
Sandwich - Masilungan (boy version)
Sandwich - Masilungan (girl version)
I love the little stories that each vignette tells (or doesn't tell).
I am left wanting to know more about each player in this seemingly all-too-normal play.
It's exactly how I feel sometimes, when I'm driving home alone or when I'm wandering around the bookstore trying to find that book whose title I've forgotten or when I'm...

"Atat" The Unreleased Rivermaya Music Video
One of my favorite music videos! :)
Simple. Honest. Heartfelt.
Too bad writing a story doesn't look as interesting or as dramatic.
The video was conceptualized and directed by Avid Liongoren.
I recently got Rico Blanco's first solo album and liked it a lot. (Well, there were one or two songs that didn't sit with me so well, but the rest of the songs were great.) Hoping the songs end up with some nice looking videos. I think Avid would do a great job in making a video for the song "Ayuz". One of the lines in the song talks about Hell finally getting air-conditioning and they've even started serving ice cream. I'd want to see him render that in his art style.
NOTES FROM AVID'S POST:
Real time-ish jeuvenile notebook doodles! Thats the first thing I thought about when I heard this song...
One of my more "brilliant" ideas... I think I'll use this concept when I get to work with Radio Head, or Coldplay... ehe....

the secret commercial for Doc Martens
Video from schizo102's YouTube channel
And since the Eraserheads are having their grand reunion tonight, it's only appropriate that we feature one of their videos today.
This particular music video was directed by Matthew Rosen, who we've had the honor of working with on several TV commercials.
When the video was made, Dr Martens was one of the sponsors of the Eheads. Since MTV didn't allow any brands to be shown on any music videos, they had to find another way to feature the Doc Martens, which is why you'll notice all those great shots of the boots and shoes.

I Need You Here by Color It Red @ Route 196

Stay by Color It Red
Video from DEMENTEDNESS' YouTube Channel
I wanted to start this blog with the band that got me interested in the band scene of the 90s. We tried our very best to attend every single Color It Red gig in Manila. And thanks to some good old friends in Club Dredd, 70's Bistro, NU107, and RJ, we were able to watch a lot of those gigs for free.
And yes, watching Cooky and band later inspired us to make a comic book about the Manila band scene with a superhero twist.
